About the journal
ETNOMUZYKOLOGIA POLSKA (Eng: Polish Ethnomusicology) is the first Polish periodical dedicated entirely to traditional music across its broad spectrum of conditions and contexts. It has appeared as an annual publication since 2016, and its contributing authors represent research communities from a wide variety of academic institutions and universities. Among these, young ethnomusicologists play a particularly important role – many of whom, in addition to studying and documenting local musical traditions, likewise actively cultivate them by participating in groups that perform traditional and folk music from all parts of the world. Although the journal is primarily directed toward the musical community, it has a broad audience of representatives from other artistic fields and academic disciplines, whose research interests involve traditional music. The periodical’s texts reflect current research trends and spheres of interest in the field of ethnomusicology.
We kindly inform that, since the journal’s fourth issue, articles are only accepted upon receiving two positive reviews.

The Polish Ethnomusicological Seminar arose in 2011 on the initiative of graduates from the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw specializing in ethnomusicology. The Polish Ethnomusicological Seminar is an association of academic character, concerned with popular and folk music, in a broad sense, from Poland and abroad, as well as courtly and religious music from non-european musical cultures. The Polish Ethnomusicological Seminar’s mission is to actively support the development of ethnomusicological research in Poland, as well as promote ethnomusicologists’ academic achievements. The association carries out its mission by:
- Enabling those interested in ethnomusicological research to learn about the latest ethnomusicological achievements around the world.
- Organizing and leading training courses, workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Supporting members of the association in their research and ethnomusicological activity.
- Initiating, creating, and supporting student group activity.

- While evaluating the academic merit of proposed articles, the Editorial Team treats all Authors equally and avoids discrimination.
- The Editorial Team makes every effort to maintain the integrity of the double-anonymized peer review process.
- In the interest of impartial and reliable text evaluation, the Editorial Team selects Reviewers who:
– are not in conflict of interest with the Author(s),
– are not related to the Author(s) in a reporting line,
– are specialists in the given field, hold a doctoral degree or higher, and have amassed the appropriate academic achievements,
– are considered impartial and objective. - In the event that a text is not accepted for publication, the Editorial Team cannot utilize its contents in any capacity.
- The Editorial Team strives to counteract authorial, editorial, and reviewer dishonesty.
- The Editorial Team is prepared to publish apologies, corrections, and clarification when necessary.
Principles Governing Etnomuzykologia Polska’s Contributing Authors
- Submitting a text for publication is treated as equivalent to an author’s declaration that the work is original, does not impinge upon third-party rights, is unpublished, and has not been submitted for publication elsewhere.
- Authors are obliged to provide the names of all persons involved in preparing the submitted text.
- Authors are obliged to provide information on sources of financing, as well as the contributions of scientific and research institutions, associations and other entities.
- Authors guarantee that they either have the rights to any illustrative materials sent along with the article, or are utilizing materials available under a license permitting their publication in the journal.

Review Process
Articles sent to the periodical are initially evaluated by members of the Editorial Team on the basis of their coherence with the current issue’s theme and on the basis of whether they adhere to the formal requirements specified in the guidelines for Authors published on the Journal’s website. Upon receiving a positive initial verification, articles are directed to two independent Reviewers who are not affiliated with the same entities as the Author and do not have a conflict of interest.
The principle of double-anonymity is applied (neither Author nor Reviewer knows each other’s names). Reviews should be prepared in accordance with the Editorial Team’s template and should contain a clear recommendation for the text’s publication, revision or rejection. In the event that an article receives two contradictory reviews, the Editorial Board can direct the text to a third Reviewer, whose decision will be considered final. If an Author does not agree with certain recommendations, he or she should append a response to the corrected text. The revised manuscript is sent back to the same Reviewer along with the Author’s written response. Authors’ comments, like those of Reviewers, are sent exclusively via the Editorial Team, which undertakes to guarantee their anonymity. If a Reviewer does not wish to evaluate the revised article, it is subject to editorial review. If the Author did not fully address the Reviewer’s comments, the Editorial Team may request further revision. In the event that an Author disregards comments that the Editorial Team deems legitimate, the article will be rejected.
Authors are informed as to whether their text was accepted for publication within 14 days following receipt of the last review pertaining to it.
